ABOUT KATIE

An NHS midwife who truly understands trauma

I built Birthcare because I knew there were thousands of people beyond the area I could reach, facing the same thing alone.

I'm Katie, a registered midwife, perinatal mental health specialist, and the person behind Birthcare. My work sits at the intersection of clinical expertise and genuine human understanding of what birth fear and trauma actually feels like.

People Who Deserved Better Support

HOW IT STARTED

From the labour ward to here, my story

After the birth of my second child, I felt a deep pull to change direction and dedicate my career to helping others have better, more supported birth experiences.

I began by training as an antenatal teacher, which quickly led me to study midwifery, and I've never looked back. While working as a community midwife, I saw first-hand the incredible impact that emotional preparation, compassionate care, and genuine support can have on birth experiences.

That's what inspired me to train as a hypnobirthing instructor and create Birthcare, initially as a space for positive birth education. But over time, my work and my heart began to focus more deeply on supporting those for whom pregnancy isn't always joyful or straightforward.

People who were navigating anxiety, fear, or trauma from previous experiences. That's what led me to specialise as an NHS perinatal mental health midwife, working within a Maternal Mental Health Service supporting people who have experienced perinatal trauma, loss, or a profound fear of birth.

"Birth trauma isn't always about what went wrong medically. Sometimes it's about feeling invisible, dismissed, and completely unheard."

"In that theatre full of people, you felt so alone."

MY WHY

What I kept seeing, and

couldn't ignore

Every week in my NHS work I would see people who desperately needed more support than the system could provide quickly enough.

The waiting lists were long. The appointments were short. And in between, people were navigating their pregnancies alone, carrying fear that was completely understandable and yet rarely validated by the care they received.

I built Birthcare because I knew there were thousands more beyond the area I could reach, facing the same thing alone. The digital space meant I could extend my reach without compromising the depth of care that makes this work actually effective.

MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH

Supporting people when the system reaches its limits

My NHS work gave me an insight into the scale of unmet need for perinatal mental health support, and the specific gaps that exist for people navigating pregnancy after trauma.

You

Deserve better than that

01

Validation First

Your fear is real, reasonable, and makes complete sense given what you've been through. That's always where we start.

02

No Empty Reassurances

I will never tell you to relax or think positively. I will help you find tools that work with your nervous system, not against it.

03

Trauma-Informed Always

Every resource, every podcast episode, every word — created with the understanding that trauma changes how we receive support.

MY APPROACH

Trauma-informed written for you

My approach is trauma-informed and grounded in over 10 years of NHS clinical experience. That means no empty reassurances, no glossing over what happened, and no pretending your fear isn't real. It also means meeting you exactly where you are.

FOUNDATION

Validation Before Everything

Before tools, before techniques, before anything else, your experience is acknowledged. Your fear is not a problem to be fixed. It's a response to be understood.

METHOD

No Verbal Retelling Required

You don't need to retell your birth story to receive support. I've developed tools that work with your nervous system without requiring you to relive what happened.

OUTCOME

Building Genuine Confidence

Not performed bravery. Not false positivity. Genuine, grounded confidence that comes from understanding your body, your options, and your right to be heard.

PARTNERSHIP

You Lead, I Support

My role is to give you the knowledge, tools, and permission you need, then step back. You are the expert in your own experience. I'm here to help you trust that.

ROOTED IN

NHS Clinical Experience

Over 10 years working within NHS maternity and mental health services means every resource I create is grounded in what actually works, not what sounds reassuring.

ACCESSIBLE

Support Between Appointments

Birthcare exists for the space between NHS appointments, the evenings, the 2am moments, the days when fear feels loudest and support feels furthest away.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

The training behind, the compassion

Clinical expertise and human warmth aren't opposites. Here's what I've spent over a decade learning, and how it shows up in everything Birthcare creates.
